The C is a 1972 2V and the W is a 1977. With that said....which one should I rebuild on a limited budget. I'd like this engine to have at least 300 + hp. Theres so much speculation on rebuilding the two that it almost sounds like a matter of opinion. Let me further state that I've never FULLY rebuilt an engine from the ground up. I have done plenty of work on my cars in the past..IE heads, intakes, cams......never touched the bottom end. All said and done I'd like an engine I can beat on at the track but still drive on the road as well..again on a limited budget. ( $3000.00 )

With that budget...  the Cleveland is out.
Where are you located?  If you're local, I can help you with that a little bit.

I've never built a Cleveland, but I have noticed that the aftermarket does support the Windsor better.... There are just more 'performance' parts available

I would build the Windsor. I've built both engines in the past. The Windsor engine has a far superior oiling system. You would have to install oil restrictors in the bottom end of the Cleveland to get the same results. You can spin the Windor engine higher rpm's without having to worry about the block breaking as well. We've used block cement in a Cleveland engine in a front engine dragster and still broke the block. Parts for the Windsor are much more reasonable as compared to the Cleveland. If your Windsor engine is a '69 - '74 block, that's even better. I really like the '69 - '74 Windsor heads as well. That's all I run on my 302 based engines. I've built alot of Ford racing engines in my time and you have any questions, feel free to call me or email me. Shoot me a PM and I'll give you my number.
