My projects--pick-um-up trucks
« on: April 28, 2010, 02:02:33 PM »
My daily driver is a 2002 Ford Lightning, Bassani headers and cat-backs, Magnaflow stainless mufflers, 2lb upper pulley and 6 lb lower with SCT tuner, making 402 RWHP and 541lbs of torque. I am running Boyd Coddington 20X10 billet aluminum wheels with Toyo 295/40/20 tires. Rear suspension is a custom built road-race 3 link with QA1 adjustable coil-overs and Watts linkage with a 5" drop, front is a Belltech setup with 4".

My other project is an older Lightning, 1940 Ford pickup, Viper suspension and brakes, 3 piece Viper race wheels with Pirelli P-Zero tires, 285 fronts, 335's in the rear. The frame is 1 5/8" DOM tubing with a full roll cage built into it.  Engine will be a 557" Ford with top-loader 4 speed. Windshield has been raked back to match a 40 Ford coupe, thus lowering the top 3". The bed will be shortened to fit the new wheel base.

Okay, I got one question....

What is the weight of those wheels, no tires?

Thanks!

I am not sure of the weight, but they are the lightest wheels I have owned and were designed for race Vipers running 180MPH and being able to go around a corner.  My 40 will be a whole lot lighter than a full dress Viper and I probably won't drive it as hard.  If I was smart, I would use a mod-motor, but I like the top=loader with my Supershifter and I own everything else, so I'm going to use it.  Later, I will change to something a little more user friendly than the 557" BBF, but for now, its torque. and lots of it.

I live in Vancouver, WA but my 40 is in my shop in Grants Pass.  I hope to make some progress in the next couple of months. Moved everything into a bigger shop and have been getting equipment operational.  Once my tubing bender is ready, I'll get some more photos posted..

This project has been ongoing and I have sold all of my others to concentrate on this one.  The Viper suspension was off a 4000 mile car, never wrecked, that became a race car.  I have been gathering parts for the last 5 or 6 years and it is the time to finish it.

Not sure what I am doing paint-wise.  I was going to do a " faux-just found it in the barn" paint scheme, but that seems to be getting over done.  Maybe something silver and ????? I don't know. Just want the wheels to show up.  I have $2000 just in the tires, so it has to be cool.  I wanted to use the stock seat, but because it is going to be so low, the driveshaft is going to envade the interior somewhat. Maybe Viper seats?
